The Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has directed the Accountant General, the Head of Service and the Commissioner for Finance to complete all necessary formalities for the payment of accumulated pension arrears which have been piled up by the previous administrations.
It was revealed that as of June 2019, their arrears stood at N56.8billion.
The Governor who gave this directive at a one-day Pension Stakeholders Forum in Owerri also directed the government officials to work out the correct and authentic accurate statistics to be involved in the payment before the end of next week.
He also attributed the delay in payment to the discrepancies in the figures of the State Accountant General and Pension Office. He said that he had already set up a committee to help find a solution and remedy the discrepancies to avoid possible double payment or exemption of payment.
Ihedioha said the committee had already come up with a report which suggested that equipment would be procured and they would be domiciled in the 27LGAs of the origin or to their places of origin based on certain criteria which included the pensioner’s inability to go their place of origin.
He promised the pensioners a better package as the Treasury Single Account(TSA) which his administration introduced is already paying off.
