Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan’s lackadaisical attitude allowed IfeanyiUbah the opportunity to leave Ibadan with a point after the visitors came back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at the Lekan Salami Sports Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday. This display was in spite of the presence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji at the venue.
New 3SC signing from Rivers United, Ebitimi Agogu, gave the home side the lead in the seventh minute while Afolabi Wahab’s canon from the edge of the box seemed to have sealed the lead in the 75th minute.
Playing in front of an intimidating full stadium, the first of such crowd this season, 3SC went to sleep as two goals were scored in the space of three minutes.
The first was a penalty converted by IfeanyiUbah’s Cameroonian import, Tamen Medrano, who sent 3SC goalkeeper, Charles Tembe, the wrong side. Two minutes later, Anjuwa Oyebuchi made it 2-2 after a moment of indecision by two 3SC’s defenders drifted the ball on his path with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The draw came as a surprise to thousands of 3SC fans, who trooped to the stadium, hoping to witness a repeat of the victory that their team recorded against MFM FC in Lagos last weekend.
However, the similarity between the two matches was that just like in Lagos, Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinninck also watched the match in Ibadan.
Shooting Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote said he was only disappointed with the score line but expressed satisfaction at the way his team progressed in team work since he returned to the club three weeks ago.
“The result is disappointing especially when you note that the fans came here in large numbers. Many could not even gain entry into the stadium 30 minutes before the game. However, the team will continue to progress so the fans will smile again,” he said.
