The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, Mr. Folorunso Folarin-Coker has stated that the “One Lagos” brand is scheduled to be formally launched in May 2016 as part of activities lined up to serve as countdown to the celebration of “Lagos @ 50”.
The Commissioner disclosed this today at Bagauda kaltho Press Centre, Alausa Ikeja during the Y2016 Ministerial Press briefing by the Lagos State Government in commemoration of the first year anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration.
He explained that the Ministry recognized the importance of strategic branding of destinations to the development of tourism and is exploiting the identified benefits of destination branding by registering the “One Lagos”, “Love Lagos”, and the “One Lagos Fiesta” brands at the trademarks registry.
According to him, the ‘One Lagos’ brand, which is the master brand for LAGOS, is packaged to showcase the true spirit of Lagos through different creative expressions while leveraging on the City’s abundant “soft” power to reverse the negative conversation often associated with Lagos; reinvigorate tourism across the State by celebrating our unique people, places and heritage and positively promote Lagos as the ‘The Destination’ in Africa.”
The Commissioner noted that the formal launch would boost the promotion and development of the culture of Entertainment, Arts and Leisure in the State, adding that the event will also be used to unveil the ONE LAGOS logo and memento in order to maximize economic benefits from tourism.
Folarin-Coker observed that as part of the strategies to brand Lagos as “The Destination” in Africa, the Ministry recognized the need to provide critical tourism information to the public to induce an informed decision making process on tourism choices or destinations within the State.
“Consequently, using technology, creativity, arts and culture to push the new Lagos agenda, we have developed the ‘One Lagos’ website and mobile application to provide authentic Lagos content for tourists and residents of the state.”
He stressed that the Website and App, showcase the true spirit of Lagos and provides real time information for the state, spanning arts, culture, nightlife, entertainment, restaurants, accommodation, emergency services, traffic news, weather reports and more.
The Commissioner therefore called on all Lagosians and interested individuals to download the ‘One Lagos’ App for a unique digital and informative experience of Lagos State.
