United States’ ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington has expressed confidence in the process for the September 22 gubernatorial election in Osun State, saying that the exercise would be credible, free and fair.
Symington stated this in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as he visited the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola.
He reiterated the commitment of the US and international community to credible elections and democratic governance anywhere in the world, adding that the international community is following all proceedings before, during and after the upcoming elections with keen interest.
” It is a great honour to be here once again, and to meet with the candidate of APC, Mr Gboyega Oyetola. It is extraordinarily important for every son and daughter of this state to ensure all hands are on deck as we the US and in fact other International Communities are doing, because they are the first and major stakeholders.
“It is critical for these stakeholders to know that their action and inaction in this electoral process determine their survival as a people and generations yet unborn,” he said.
Oyetola, in his remarks, said he was happy that Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his party, the APC are committed to peaceful electoral process.
He opined that the peace would be sustained throughout electioneering, during and after election.
