House of Representatives members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), on Monday, reacted to the impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
Reports had it that eight members of the State House of Assembly had earlier served the governor an impeachment notice.
But in a swift reaction, the governor, who recently decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said only eight lawmakers lacked the constitutional powers to remove him from office.
PDP caucus, led by the Deputy Minority Leader, Chukwuka Onyema, have now condemned the impeachment move.
They stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government was fast manifesting symptoms of the former military Head of State, Sani Abacha.
Speaking during a Press Conference in Abuja, Onyema said the move was “an illegality and a gross violation of the 1999 Constitution.
“Indications are emerging that this administration is walking in the same grim path of the forbidden regime of Late Sani Abacha and the outright dictatorship that overthrew the Democratic Shehu Shagari’s administration.”dp
