The Federal Government has asked its Ministries, Departments and Agencies operating from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to settle all electricity bills to avoid the embarrassment of disconnection by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
The Chairman of the Committee on Management and Maintenance of the Federal Secretariat and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Mr. Sonny Echono, gave the directive at the first meeting of the committee, according to a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.
Echono said the directive was important to avoid a repeat of the recent disconnection of the seat of government due to the failure of the several MDAs to pay for the electricity they consumed.
At the meeting, officials of the AEDC were also invited to clarify issues on the outstanding bills owed by the MDAs.
Echeno expressed appreciation to the firm for restoring electricity to the complex.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ita-Oyo, had last week set up the committee for the management of the secretariat following the recent power outage at the complex.
The committee is saddled with the responsibility of reconciling outstanding electricity bills, prioritisation of emergency rehabilitation works, constitution of sub-committees and arrangement for the payment of outstanding bills.
Others duties of the panel are the review of cleaning arrangement, and accommodation status of the MDAs in the secretariat/inventory of occupants, among others.
